Oldies 2021

Never ones to be thwarted by a mere pandemic, and the final cancellation of the much-postponed Oldies week at Jessie Mac’s in Birnam, a trip to the Isle of Bute was mooted to take advantage of the recent good weather.

In the event, 3 intrepid Oldies, Alistair McDonald, Jim Smith and Jim Wood took the ferry to Rothesay where they met up with Alex Horn who had travelled down from his home in Tarbert.

The mileage around Bute is just over 30 miles, just fine for a leisurely run in scorching weather, with lunch at Ettrick Bay providing a welcome break.

We look forward to 2022 when normal service can be resumed with the next Oldies week away.

Jim Reid

With other Club members I attended Jim’s funeral at Dalnottar Crematorium.  Jim served the Club for many years, joining in 1979, and played a huge part in ensuring the Club’s survival during the lean years of the 1980s and 1990s serving in every committee role up to and including Club Chairman.  His racing career continued into his 80s.

Latterly he was resident in the Glasgow Erskine Care Home until his death at the age of 93.   As a token of the Club’s gratitude to Jim for all he did on their behalf, the Club have made a donation of £500 to the home.

Highland Fling ‘22 – Pitlochry

Pitlochry Backpackers Hostel Mon, May 9th to Sat 14th May 2022

Giving the finger to Covid19, Oldies honorary ‘secretary, Davie Reynolds, has booked the Pitlochry Backpackers Hostel for the above dates. Numbers attending currently stand at 14.

As a forerunner to this eagerly anticipated event the Oldies met at the Horseshoe Bar in Glasgow on the 1st of September to enjoy our first chance to meet after most of Scotland’s Covid restrictions were lifted. Not everyone could make it but the hard core were, as ever, in attendance.
